211 on property belonging to Billy Wa>land a sign for Gary Settle was removed and left on the ground, but not vandalized. Sgt. Newlin said Trooper W.F. Herman Jr. out of Fauquier County is investigating that incident.
Sheriff John Henry Woodward • said that he hopes none of his supporters were involved in these incidents. He said there have also been incidents in which signs supporting him had been vandalized, but no reports were Filed. “I wish they would get caught so we could get to the bottom of this,” he said.
Mr. Settle said he has replaced some of the signs and added, “They’re expensive. I urge everyone to keep an eye out...and protect every body’s right to a fair election.”
“I have to assume it’s just the work of vandals,” he continued. “1 won’t let vandals keep me from running a strong and clean campaign.”
