The local literacy organization, LVA Rappahannock, convened Monday evening at the county library in their fifth annual membership meeting. They elected directors and officers for the coming year, and heard an inspiring address by Mary Ann Biggs, assistant superintendent of Rappahannock’s public schools.
After noting that the literacy mission is for adult education, what the public schools’ mission is for school children, Mrs. Biggs discussed the common problem of making a good connection between teacher and student. In the course of her animated talk, she gave many insightful examples from her experience in the field of education.
Jane Batchelder of Amissville discussed plans for tutor training later this fall, including “process writing.”
