Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham said, "Since the deputies are in a precarious situation, I think they should be paid, and the new sheriff can start with a new slate." Col. Bingham’s motion to appropriate the money passed unanimously.
Col. Bingham also asked for extended hours at the landfill. He noted that Jackson District residents, who live near the landfill are restricted in the hours they can dispose of their trash, while residents near the Huntly and Scrabble dumpsters have access to them 24 hours a day.
His first suggestion was that the landfill be open from 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesdays. He said many Jackson District residents commute outside the county to work, and have to keep their trash until the weekend because the landfill closes before they get home on weekdays.
He suggested hours could be shortened Friday night to pay part of the approximately $8,500 the extra day would cost. Then he suggested
