mornings a week tutoring kids in reading, math, “whatever is needed,” and has done so for five years. She tutors up through the fifth grade, and said she loves it. Her background also includes tutoring learning disabled children in Washington, D.C., which she also does on a private basis.
While tutoring in Mrs. Flinchum’s first grade class last Thursday, one little boy came up from behind and gave Mrs. Gottlieb a big hug. She returned it, smiled, and continued on with tutoring two boys in reading.
Mrs. Flinchum said she really enjoys having Mrs. Gottlieb in her class and wishes she could stay all day. She said that just a few mitjptes help with a student one-on-one can make a difference in their learning.
Liz Tole is another reading tutor who helps two mornings a week at RCES. She has been volunteering at RCES for 10 years, working at first in the library and for the last five years tutoring reading. A sixth grader came up to her the other day and asked, “Do you remember me?” She did, and said that when children remember her
