Ed Atkins, 45, of Front Royal, swerved to the left in his 1992 Pontiac to avoid Mr. Jewell, and ended up in a ditch. Mr. Atkins was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured, but his car sustained $2,000 damage. Mr. Jewell was charged by State Trooper Wayne Sumner with improper lane change.
Soon after midnight last Saturday, a 17 year-old boy from Castleton totalled his 1990 Toyota pickup. The accident took place on Route 729, 1.5 miles south of U.S. 211. He told Trooper Mike Woodard that he had to swerve to avoid hitting a deer, and ran off the road, hit a tree and embankment, and overturned. He was wearing a seat belt and was transported to Fauquier Hospital for a possible broken hand.
