To the Editor:
There is a cliche that begins “Words are not sufficient to express..etc. etc.” The folly of that statement is of course, recognized when, considering the richness of our language, we become aware that our ability to express anything is limited only by our command of language. With that limitation in mind, I hope this letter will serve three purposes, all of which will express appreciation.
First, your recent editorial on “Rappahannock County Volunteerism” was at once, thoughtful, timely, and, (I think meant to be) all inclusive. You are commended. But since a number of fine volunteers were mentioned by designation, one extraordinary group of volunteers was (I suppose) inadvertently omitted...those wonderful individuals who staff our library circulation desk on a regular basis.
As Vice President of the Library Board of Trustees, I thank each and every' one of them. I would list their names, but as one knows, when a list is so long, the risk of missing someone far exceeds our poor power tp include everyone. So let me use the most simple expression of appreciation in our language, to each of you (you know who you are)...Thank you so very much!”
Second, this “thank you” is to David Gangel, Superintendent of Schools. I recently had an occasion to call Dr. Gangel about a rather sensitive and confidential (not personal, but community) matter, after failing to have my phone call returned by the relevant school official. He advised me that he would take care of it right away, and he did. So again, “Thank You, Dr. Gangel!”
