Carolina B. Woodward’s sister, Frances Bolen Dwyer and their brother, John Henry Bolen, are my direct ancestors, thus making Carla Johnson Smith and me double third cousins twice removed.
Carla and I met at the Clerk’s Office at Washington, Virginia and did some research. I then escorted them to the Appetite Repair Shop in Sperryville where we had lunch. From there we visited with Ethel Atkins Tyner, whom I supposed would remember something of Carla’s great-grandparents. She did! The most fond memory she had was that Mrs. Woodward always baked lots of cookies, and as Ethel said,
