The following week I did not see the Smiths as they had other visits to make and things to do. During the interim, however, I received a phone call from other Bolen cousins, here from San Antonio, Texas. Carl and Novella Parks Bolen were in Warrenton, Virginia and on their way home but wanted to stop to see me. We met Thursday morning in Culpeper and enjoyed each others’ company for a few hours, again sharing some genealogical information. It was hard to realize it had been two years since their last visit.
Carl’s great-grandfather, George Robert Bolen, who had married Sarah Jane Monroe, left Virginia shortly after the Civil War and found a new home in Licking County, Ohio. George R. Bolen being another of the offspring of Edward Bolen above mentioned.
On the 16th, the Smiths came by to visit on their way home. A short but sweet visit. 1 made a gift of some hand-braided chair pads my grandmother Pullen had made to Carla. She was much excited, saying it was the best thing she’d gotten since she had been here.
They are all gone now. The week of Thanksgiving seemed a little empty knowing that. But it was also the week of Thanksgiving, and I will give thanks for those ties that bind.
