As the season progresses, he’ll only get better and better.” He said he was happy with solid performances from Jon Butler who sported a mohawk haircut and Jason Carter, whose cross country conditioning showed, although he seems better suited to offensive lineman in football.
Coach Luther Stanley was also very pleased with his JV team’s 34 to 16 victory. The JV squad also was able to hold the lead throughout the game leading 10 to 2 at the end of the first quarter, 17 to 4 at halftime, and 28 to 9 at the end of the third quarter.
“I don’t think we were really pressed during the game,” he said. “The real test is Friday night.”
He added, “I have a bunch of boys who are willing to work hard, and I believe we’ll have another productive season.” He said he was pleased with the contributions of all the players. “They’re a young ball club, but they’re willing to work,” he said. Seven of the 14 players on the team are freshmen, two are eighth graders and five are sophomores.
After the Friday game at Central the teams will return home next Tuesday to face Manassas Park.
