chilly and damp but it was not bitterly cold. The empty park was peaceful. Traffic on U.S. 211 seemed distant.
Shortly after 11 a.m. a father showed up with two little girls bundled in snowsuits.
Tony Michael said he was from Page County. Every other Saturday he has visitation with his daughters, and he frequently brings them to the county park. Michelle headed straight for the castle. She ran over the rocking bridge and started climbing towers. Her younger sister Melissa stayed back, somewhat wary.
Up to the crow’s nest Michelle climbed. She headed back to the castle and slid down the slide and ran back and forth over the bridge.
Then she was off to the spinning platform. She wanted her father’s help to get spinning faster. Melissa tried it but cried to be taken off.
Mr. Michael said he really likes the park because, although it is small, there are lots of different activities for the girls close together.
As noon approached three young men showed up with food and a basketball. They clearly intended to eat some lunch and then shoot some hoops. ,
