Sheriff Gary Settle says Dr. Gangel has a tough, no-win job in making the decision whether to open school normally. “I’ve seen their vehicles out early in the morning since the first of the year,” he said. His deputies try to keep Dr. Gangel informed of hazardous conditions, but Sheriff Settle says he understands Dr. Gangel’s insistence on checking bus routes for himself. ^
“There is a lot of variation in the conditions of our roads at this time of year,” Sheriff Settle said. “You can’t just check one control location or one particular spot.”
