The bypass is a bad idea, period. If VDOT wants to alleviate the occasional traffic problems which, so far as I know, no one in Sperryville has comr plained about, then why not redo the bridge and the 250 or so yards of highway between the Comer Store and the Exxon. Surely this would require far fewer of our tax dollars than the bypass. Go one step further and ban trucks from the Comer Store to the VFW/Rescue Squad and then you have a pleasant business district whlfcft is adjacent to the vital traffic patterris going to both the Shenandoah National Park and to the Old Rag/Charlottesville area. I realize this solution relies very heavily on common sense, but hopefully someone wiser than I will find a way to make it seem complicated while keeping the same end result. Then perhaps VDOT and your editorial board will embrace it and Sperryville will remain a vibrant community.

Stop Bypass

At the VDOT meeting this past Monday night Lyle and I spoke with over two-thirds of the citizens that came out. We offered a petition which stated “I oppose the Sperryville connector road and want VDOT to terminate the study.” Of the group we spokd with, 82 percent were strongly opposed to a Sperryville connector road, 78 percent signed the petition, 10 percent were for the project, and 8 percent were undecided.
We want the Planning Commission and county Board df Supervisors to pass a resolution opposing the Sperryville connector road. It is critical that individuals contact their representatives on the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors regarding this issue as soon as possible.
..On March 25 there will be a pob» lie hearing in Culpeper where VDOT can terminate the project. At that time they look for input from the Board of Supervisors and the public in order to make their decision. If we voice our opinions early, we stand a strong chance of protecting this area from becoming a major North/South traffic corridor. It will take your voice to preserve this county. .
