Russian Guns
To the Editor:
This letter expresses my concern over the importing of Russian guns into the already overloaded U.S.A. In reading USA Today of Friday, Feb. 2, 1996,1 was astonished to read that the present Democratic administration is on the threshold of approving Russian gun import applications.
As if this country does not have enough firearms, these applications covered the import of 3 million rifles, 1.2 million handguns and 9 billion rounds of ammunition. In direct contradiction to this was President Clinton’s recent “State of the Union Address” that emphasized his commitment toward reducing crime and increasing gun control.
The public seems to agree that there area already too many guns in the wrong hands. Do our lawmakers have any idea of how many of these 1.2 million imported handguns will land into the wrong hands? Who is our current administration kidding when it states thaj these gun permits are for weapons destined for sports and collections? Let’s stop believing in Santa Claus and look at reality. Guns and
