To The Theatre
Moliere's great classic comedy "The Imaginary Invalid" ("Le Malade Imaginaire") comes to the Theatre at Washington, Va„ for two ‘performances on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. In this new English translation by Martin Sorrell the play is titled "The Hypochondriac."
The play is set in the late 17th century, in the Paris home of M. Argan, a self-professed invalid.
The underlying theme of the play is a witty, if scathing, treatment of doctors, apothecaries and the entire medical profession of the time.
Moliere is acknowledged as France's foremost writer of comedies.
This production by the Rude Mechanicals Theater Company is directed by Ann Russell.
