Against George Mason the previous Tuesday, the varsity Panthers got an early lead but couldn't hold onto it. The first quarter ended with George Mason up by one point.
The second quarter saw many lead changes, but the Panthers led by two points at half time. George Mason barely managed to get the lead in the third quarter. At the end of three periods George Mason led 51-49. However, in the fourth quarter the Panther defense fell apart, and George Mason scored 22 points while the Rappahannock squad added only five to lose 71 -56.
"Were struggling," Coach Baltimore said after that game. "As a team we're standing around watching Jett Atkins do too much. There [should] be more people rebounding than Jeff and Ervin." He said the team needed to "come together" to achieve their goal of reaching the regional playoffs.
Jeff Atkins led the scoring with 16 points. Ervin Phillips had 9 rebounds and 8 points. "Those two gave it all they had," Coach Baltimore said. He said Tommy Settle "alsopepped up."
The JV defeated Manassas Park last Friday 36-23. "We played horribly the first half," Coach Jason Gochenour said. "There was a real lack of effort, and we did a poor job of rebounding and being patient on offense." Nevertheless the Panthers led 18-13 at half time.
