There is an apparent problem with leaking from the roof of the old gymnasium at the high school. ' They have had a consultant to come and look at the roof and they have found there are actually three roofs, one overtop of the other. The consultant will present a plan with options on replacing or fixing the roof, he said.
Piedmont District Supervisor Charles K. “Pete” Estes said the roof would probably need to be replaced, not repaired, and if repairing it would not permanently correct the problem he would not vote for it.
The Board approved a bid of $21,012.80 by Cornier Textile Products for improvements in the rain shield at the county landfill. The board hhs estimated $30,000 to $35,000 and the highest bid received was $25,000. There was a bid for $18,357 but it was not accepted because it was not a qualifying bid due to the inclusion in the bid of inferior materials to be used.
Mr. McCarthy updated the Board on the Kitchen Case which concerned illegal dumping by Alfred Kitchen on his property. The judge has ordered the debris be removed by April 15, which was an extension. It must be removed to the county’s satisfaction. Much of the debris has been removed, Mr. McCarthy said, but as of last Friday what remained had not been moved.
Mr. McCarthy also said that on the issue of financial assurance for landfills by the EPA, Virginia had not gotten its extension filed in time and so a report must be documented and sent by April 9 just for the record, even though most of the
