Robert Smith is the pastor, and aided by his wife Anita and their children, Robert, Anita and Starla, they serve up mouth-watering barbecue every weekend. Their knowledge of course comes first hand.
Ruth Young, of Sperryville, always wanted to open a little shop, she said.
“I just couldn’t be bothered about with putting everything up and taking it down every week though,” she said. “Now, with this new location, 1 can set up this little shop and leave it, all ready for next week.”
She sells homemade baked goods and crafts, knick-knacks and some antiques and collectibles.
“When I first heard about the move to the new location and found out we could leave the rooms set up, I thought it would be a good thing to do,” she said.
Henry Hudson of Washington, Va., who has participated in the flea market for the last three to four years said he feels much the same way,
“I hope it will do well,” he said. “It’s a nice location.”
The area has picnic tables set up, shops up and down the length of the motel and in front and boasts everything from Texas-style barbecue or homemade baked goods to antiques and furniture.
Kay Lakey Hand, of Luray, who creates handmade jewelry and Civil War figures, made of crushed pecan shells and resin and then painted, thinks the move is a positive one.
