RAAC had booked die film The English Patient, to be shown at the Theatre on May 16, long before it received the Academy Award for best film, the entire film series is one of many examples of RAAC’s enrichment of the cultural life of Rappahannock County.
As is the case nowadays with die movies, live drama and musical performances are also usually presented for just a single night at the Theatre. Partly this reflects the effects of development of the home entertainment industry — TV, video, and musical recordings — which have made it more of a challenge everywhere to attract a large audience for live performances.
But there is an additional reason in the case of the Theatre's presentations. Many of the actors who appear at the Theatre do not live in this area and are not able to stop in Little Washington more than a day. Wayne Clawson, who brings his one man show The Shooting of Dm McGrew to the Theatre on April 19 comes specially from North Carolina for this performance.
