County Administrator John McCarthy said a lot of states are exploring that idea for a variety of purposes and especially the criminal justice aspects, like having prisoners pay fees to stay in jail and for court costs. County Attorney Peter Luke said he is doubtful that most of the inmates of the county jail would pay such costs because many are there for failure to pay other costs which got them there in the first place.
However, he did say prisoners now do pay some charges and there is a mechanism in place for that.
