“They picked me. It was probably the most flattering thing I’ve had happen to me in my life,” he said with a broad smile. “I think I had the right amount of skills. They wanted someone who is a teacher, an academic first and then a riding instructor. It was more important to them that a director have teaching ability.”
“They also wanted a director who would continue to compete,” he said. His stallion, in which he owns one half interest, is at the fourth level now and will soon go on to compete at the International Levels in the Prix St. Georges, the Intermediare and the Grand Prix. When Rick competes his students will be allowed to accompany him and they will be coached while he competes.
