Caroline Runner, a new resident of the town, warned, “If a sewer system comes in, development will come,” adding that that would bring more traffic and streets would need widening.
Walt Longyear, a bed and breakfast owner whose property is outside of town, said that the way to get more revenue for the town is to have more meals and more rooms. That means more commercial development, he said. “Is there really a demand for more housing in town? There are other places in the county that can provide affordable housing,” he said.
Elizabeth Haskell, who lives on Rt. 626, cautioned that committee to be concerned about what the environment can take, adding that in the summer the Rush River is a creek. Ask the county to accept that growth in a part of it that can accept that waste water discharge, she suggested.
Barry Starke, a professional planner, commended the committee for taking the right approach by studying the long-range planning before it became a problem.
