On Friday, May 30, a spectacular event took place in Rappahannock County. Yes, I am talking about the Second DARE/Field Day at Rappahannock County Elementarv School.
If you had told me that this year’s event could have been better than last year I would not have believed it if I hadn’t been there myself. DARE/Field Day tends to take on a special meaning since its inception last year. It almost has a magic to it.
Just to stand back and watch the children climbing through the smokehouse, learning the importance of what to do if ever faced with that situation. Also, seeing the excitement in their eyes when they get to blow the siren on their favorite DARE Officer’s car.
With over 40 exhibits and displays open for viewing and many athletic field day events taking place, it truly was a spectacular day. Students in all grade levels at the elementary school, parents and even grandparents, members of the community, as well as a few high school students, were allowed to roam about and look at the displays.
They were allowed to ask questions of the different law enforcement agencies, local fire and rescue personnel and other DARE officers. There were also displays by the Va. Dept, of
