Real and Present Danger
The paper has made an effort to make county residents aware of the dangers facing them on the local secondary roads, particularly Route 729, and will continue to do so.
. None of these efforts, in any form, have been directed specifically toward any person or persons. Rather they are a warning toward the future in hopes that other unnecessary tragedy can be avoided.
Statistics bear out the dangers of Route 729 — seven fatalities in Culpeper and Rappahannock on the stretch from Route 211 to , Route 229 in the last four and a half years. This is an often used route that residents use to travel from one count to the other.
Additionally, many of the county’s roads can be and are dangerops if speed limits and warning signs are not heeded and sometimes even when they are.
The proposal from the Board of Supervisors to lower the speed lijnit to 45 mph for Route 729 and Route 642 is a good one and hopefully our representatives in Richmond will listen closely. . ■ Meanwhile, a healthy respect for the danger presented by these ' stretches of roadway would go a long way.
