Mr. Tompkins said it was not the intent of anyone to expand the town’s boundaries to court customers. “We hope to have a balanced approach to what is already a problem,” he said.
Mr. Gooch added that they did not want to bring people into town to hook up to a sewer or pay taxes. “If we could preserve what we have now then that would be the best. We are merely trying to plan ahead. We are not trying to develop the town...we need your help in doing that,” he said. “If everyone feels this is a foolish exercise and waste of time I can ask the Town Council to disband the committee.”
Robin Purnell said that there is a ring of farmland around much of the town and that the county should hold fast to what it has. Mr. Willis said that there is a possibility that there will be some pressure someday, and mentioned the possibility of building housing for teachers in the areas.
