Walter Estes
Walter W. Estes, 85, of Shenandoah, died at his home on Sunday, June 1.
Mr. Estes was born May 28, 1912, in Marshall and was the son of the late Henry Estes and Rebbie Carter Estes.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Amissville and had worked for the Architect of the Capital, Washington, D.C., as an Engineer and retired in May 1972 after serving 30 years of Federal Service.
He had served in the Army from 1942 to 1945 and had served in the European, African, and Middle Eastern Theatre Campaigns.
He was a Life Member of The American Legion Post 8 in Washington, D.C.
On May 5, 1945, he married Peggy Beaghan Estes who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard Estes of Davidsonville, Md. and Gary Estes of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a daughter, Frances McCord of Fredericksburg; a sister, Hester Riley of Amissville; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas M. Estes.
Funeral services will be held at the Elkton Chapel of the Kyger and Trobaugh Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5. The Rev. William Whithurst will officiate.
