“The painting has been in storage for over 50 years. My brother, Stuart, and I have been trying to get the 9 by 12 foot canvas on display for many years,” said Charlie Weisgerber.
“On Thursday, June 12, Willard Scott will re-introduce the painting to _ his NBC audience. I have been invited to be there. He will show a three by - four foot copy of grandfather’s “Flag Day” creation. June 14 is the 220th birthday of the flig,” he said.
“We need donors to help restore the painting and later we’ll donate it to a museum or suitable location. We are in touch with the Smithsonian. As a result of the TV announcement we expect to hear from some possible donors,” he said.“Finally, art teacher Joann Menezes, of the University of Maine has written a book on Betsy Ross with mention of our family’s involvement. We hope to see it published soon.”
