“We expect to stay busy all summer,” Mr. Lowery said.
Mr. Lillard, who is from Rappahannock, said, “We know a lot of people from Rappahannock, since I’m from there and there is a lot of interest there in baseball. Through the Rappahannock Athletic Association word has been getting out. It’s a lot of fun for the kids and parents too. They can get out together, so all ages enjoy it.”
The Backstop is open now at 3 p.m., after school lets out, and stays open until 9 or 10 p.m., whenever customers are finished Mr. Lillard said. On weekends they’re open from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. Beginning June 23, they will start opening at 9 a m. and see if the response is good. “My guess is we’ll probably start at noon eventually,” said Mr. Lillard, “and adjust the opening hours as necessary depending on the response. We don’t know what that will l?e yet so we’re going to start out at 9 a.m. like on weekends.” •
Mr. Lillard said since the business is seasonal, and dependent upon the weather, it’s outside, they want to give people as much access as possible for as long as they can.
