comes from working with my hands and I really enjoy looking at objects that are deftly crafted. To look at art that is the produce of someone having spent years becoming technically proficient is a very inspiring experience for me. This, in large part, is a quality I hope is evident in the illustrations I do. Whether they are straightforwardly photo-realistic or fantastically surreal, I want my use of color, drawing, composition, and handling of paint and brush to be sound. As an illustrator, it is rare that I am given control of the subject matter of my paintings — but, at least I can try to achieve technically what the Old Masters were also striving for.”
