Town Christmas celebration set

Celebrate an “Old-Fashioned Christmas” on Dec. 6 in the Town of Washington, where there will be carolers strolling the village streets, horse drawn carriages, open house at shops and galleries and a special Santa giving treats to children from the porch of the Clopton House on Main Street. The Rappahannock Historical Society will sponsor old-fashioned games for children. There will be a special Christmas performance by the Montpelier Singers at The Theatre from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Admission is free. The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a Christmas dinner at the fire hall.

Reiki 1 Class planned

Learn the ancient healing art of Reiki in a class Nov. 22-23 in Washington. The teacher April Martin maintains a Reiki practice in Washington, Va. and Washington, D.C. She received Reiki I, II and III from Reiki Masters trained in and dedicated to the Usui System of Natural Healing. She is also a retreat leader, spiritual director, artist, feng shui practioner and creator of prayer-inspired jewelry. The class will be held at her home in Washington, directions will be provided to those who wish to attend. The class will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 22 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 23. For additional information or to register call 675-1747.

Ragged Mountain activities

The Ragged Mountain Resource Center located at Oldway Art Center in Sperryville has the following activities scheduled: On Dec. 13 final second Saturday series hike for 1997, meet at Mountainside Market, followed by final Full Moon hike for 1997 of Old Rag Mountain for those still able...For information call 987-3366.

Alumni basketball tournament set

The Rappahannock County High School Athletic Department will sponsor the ninth annual Alumni Basketball Tournament on Friday, Nov. 28 and Saturday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. For more information call Kelly Settle at 987-8575.

Original works to be presented

Rappahannock High School students will present original works of prose and poetry at their second annual Young Writers’ Coffee House on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Ki Theatre. Admission charge is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Community members are invited to come and enjoy great food and the wonder of original student writing. Proceeds will benefit the RCHS drama department.

Thanksgiving open house set

The Oasis Winery will be hosting an open house featuring complimentary hor d’oeuvres, wine tastings, winery tours, Virginia made specialty food, gift products and live music on stage on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and will be held rain or shine.
