Sidney Mank

Sidney Mank, 82, of Charlottesville died Wednesday, Nov. 12 at his residence.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was the son of David and Lillian Mank.
He graduated from MIT in 1937, as a civil engineer. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy with the SeaBees and Marines on Guadaicanal, Bougainville, the Solomon Islands and in the Philippines. He resigned from the Navy in 1946 with the rank of lieutenant commander. He was a builder in New York and Florida, active in the Florida Home Builders Association and Big Brothers. He was also past president of the Miami YMHA.
In 1976, he and his wife retired to Rappahannock County. He became very involved in community affairs, Washington Fire and Rescue Squad, secretary and hearing chairman of the Rappahannock Lions Club, and was known for his many other charitable and community endeavors.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; son Andrew and daughter-in-law Sally.
Also surviving are a sister Sylvia Kaufman; a close niece Ann Newberry and her daughter Susan and sons Matthew, Zachary and Sam.
Mr. Mank was predeceased by two brothers, Matthew Mank and Merrill Mank.
Memorial services were held at Hill and Wood Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 15. Private interment will be held
