Intervention

November is designated as Early Intervention Month for Infants and Toddlers with Disabilities and their families in Virginia. Who are these infants and toddlers? Infants and toddlers who are functioning at least 25 percent below their chronological or adjusted age and/or who have a diagnosed physical or mental condition that has a high probability of resulting in a development delay are eligible to receive early intervention services.
Parents with young children between the ages 4 to 48 months are encouraged to participate in the free, parentcompleted, child-monitoring system now available through the Rappahannock-Rapidan Early Intervention Council. Each questionnaire features 30 developmental items that are written in simple, straightforward language.
The items are divided into five areas: communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem solving, and personalsocial. And, there is a section that addresses general parental concerns. Illustrations are provided when possible to assist with the understanding of items.'
