their comings and goings. I never see them involved with the squabbling for space and choice seed that frequently erupts among other birds on the feeder. Wrens just wade in among titmice, nuthatches, juncos, white-throats and cardinals in their search for food on the feeding platform. Good will and cheerful purpose combine to make a Carolina Wren a happy presence at the feeder.
I could not stay long and watch the wren because my purpose draws me back to my study. It is littered with books, some on the desk, others on the floor. I have been using them in a search for an answer to a question recently received from Roy Unger of Havre De Grace, Md. He wrote: “Do you know if the Carolina Wren mates for life or not?”
