Kt'iecca Cordani won the election last week for Jackson District School Board, but in August she decided not to run, due to her newborn having a heart defect.

Cordani did not complete the necessary procedures for taking her name off the ballot, nor did she complete forms that had specific deadlines for candidacy eligibility. Specifically, forms concerning candidate campaign committee contributions and expenditures.

Nancy Newlin of the Registrar said, “I have never seen anything like this before.”

“I reminded Rebecca’s mother that her name would still appear on the ballot unless I received a handwritten letter or something from Rebecca.”

“If she takes this nomination, shell be penalized.”
