Accomplishments: Mary Fletcher came to Rappahannock County at an early age. She graduated from George Washington Carver in 1953. She attended college at Harppersville, West Va. and then went on to nursing school in Washington, D.C. Forty-three years ago she . married Wade Hampton Fletcher and they have one son, Michael. Mrs. Fletcher worked at the Aileen plant in Flint Hill for 26 years. Following the closing of the plant, she decided to do something entirely different and went to work for the Community Services Board, where she is constantly involved with working and reaching out to people everywhere, which according to Mrs. Fletcher makes her extremely happy and proud. Her hobbies include reading the * Bible, speaking, talking and walking. She focuses on saying nice things about people, doing good deeds and “forgetting about self and concentrating on the needs of others. She has been a member of First Baptist Church in Washington for 52 years. She thoroughly enjoys Bible study and worship service. She also serves as a trustee of the church. She joined the Missionary Society at Macedonia Baptist Church in Flint Hill, where she is actively involved in that group. She enjoys the missionary work, “we provide food, clothes, toys for children and other items for individuals who would not otherwise have a great Christmas.” Mrs. Fletcher also takes care of her father, James Turner, who is 94 years old and resides near Washington. Mrs. Fletcher is truly a giving individual who prides herself in family affairs as well as the spiritual realm of life. Her only regret in life: she was always too short to play basketball but “I Could cheer loud.”
