One solution selected by the team is to focus on areas of overlap between the fourth and fifth grades, and to concentrate on those areas in fifth grade study until after the May SOL testing has been completed. He also noted that they had developed a Prediction Test, and that such a test would be given six weeks prior to the SOL test, and would be used for whole class and individual re-teaching. Ms. Simpson reported on innovations fourth grade reading and spelling, noting that students now were being placed in flexible reading- and spelling-level groupings to provide for greater student comfort level and guidance. Track and field fund

Assistant Superintendent Mary Anne Biggs reported on two $100 donations to the Track and Field Fund from Margaret Day and from W. H. Lyne. The fund now totals approximately $1600.

Y2K OK

Holly Pendleton updated the board on the school systems’ Y2K compliance status. He defined a system as being Y2K compliant “if it correctly processes date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries” and reported that all crucial computer systems are compliant, letters of compliance have been received from imbedded systems vendors, and classroom and lab computers have also checked out.
