Class Vice-President Jami Gillis returned and reported that she had been reelected as this year’s rep. Gillis and Senior Class President Allison Baker asked the board for their guidance and a statement of any restrictions on the senior class trip. They noted that trip possibilities including Cancpn, New York City, Daytona Beach and a cruise were being considered, and that they were concerned about any prohibitions on travel and transportation. Dr. Tole and Dr. Gangel said that there were no such prohibitions, but encouraged the students to select an option that would be affordable to all.
Gillis reported that Mary Mochary had encouraged a “Track Fund kick-Ofif Dance” and that such an event was being planned for the week after Christmas vacation. She also noted that the “Reading Buddies” program was continuing and that 150 students were recognized for their achievements last week.
Other activities
• A public hearing will be held by the Board of Supervisors on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Courthouse in Washington to decide upon an amendment to the budget to allow for athletic field and roof repair funding
• The footers for the RCHS addition were started on Nov. 9 and should be completed this week.
• School board evaluation forms will be distributed to the community for return by early December. This form gives faculty, parents and the community an opportunity to evaluate School Board performance and is used by the Board for self-assessment and improvement.
• School board members Rosa Crocker and Aileen Johnson will participate in the VSBA Convention in Williamsburg next week along with member-elect Rose Ann Sharp. School board memberselect Franklin Warner and Rebecca Cordani were invited, but declined to attend.
