Two Rappahannock men are retiring from the Virginia Department of Highways with a combined total of 86 years services. They are Moffett H; Brady of Flint Hill and Carlton Atkins of Sperryville and they were honored by fellow employees and the department with a dinner Thursday evening at Holly House near Culpeper. Douglas Bywaters of Flint Hill has assumed the duties of Maintenance Superintendent of the Virginia Department of Highways in Rappahannock County. He has been employed with the department for eight years and fills the vacancy left by the retirement of M.H. Brady, which becomes official in January. Flags waved in the brisk breeze Saturday morning as the initial fall meeting of the Rappahannock Hunt got underway, in spite of overcast skies which later spilled rain over the mountainsides, the hunters were welcomed and bid happy hunting by host George E. Muth, whose farm “Stonehaven” was the scene of the hunt. The Sperryville and Washington sdhool buildings were sold at public auction Saturday with the sale subject to approval by the School Board and Circuit Court.
