flexibility in setting the defensive lineup and batting order. During the course of the season, boys missed games due to illness, vacations, and family commitments. Each time another player would fill in and the team did not skip a beat.
Hodge Miller said, “Our pitching staff was the best in the league and did not give up many hits or walks. The defense played behind the pitchers was incredible. The three starting pitchers: Jacob Dodson, Jason Jenkins and Alex Sharp were extremely impressive with their control and poise. They never got rattled. Ben Hahn and Will Miller followed up in relief pitching duties and did not let up. It is every coaches dream to have the kind of pitching staff and team that we had. Each boy contributed to the success of this team.”
Three of the players: Jacob Dodson, Jason Jenkins, and Alex Sharp have been invited to play on the elite Fauquier travel team. They will practice and play throughout the winter, with their season ending in a tournament at Cooperstown, N.Y. in August of 2000. We are extremely proud of them and wish them well.
