Though hardly diverted from its business of education, the School Board and departing members Bryant Lee, Ron Makela, and Chairman John Tole were honored Tuesday night for their dedication, hard work, selflessness and effectiveness by an auditorium filled with school staff, community activists, and parents. In turn, Chairman Tole used the Public Comment portion of the December meeting “as a citizen” to present his perspective on Rappahannock education and to individually recognize some fifty members of the community for their contribution to the schools and the children’s well-being.
In an oratory entitled “Possibilities,” Tole referred to the RCHS mural and its message, “This is a place of possibilities!,” when reminding attendees of the “important roles you and many others . . . have played, now play, and will continue to play in providing an incredible array of possibilities for our students, yourselves ... for all members of this community.” He continued by presenting his observations on the need not to let performance testing dominate the educational system, but to “allow the mind of any student . . .to boldly go to those places where our thoughts and minds have not
