lamp or candle bases and hanging misfit ornaments on house plants. You might also want to give the kids that old box of silver tinsel garland to use in their own rooms.
To make clean up and next year’s decorating easier, label all your strings to remind you where they go. If you have only three strings that exactly fit the length of your front porch, label them to show that they go together and are for the porch. Also, get rid of any old electrical decorations that might no longer be safe to use. If you have safe decorations that you do not plan to use again, ^donate them to a local shelter, school or hospital to brighten up someone else’s holiday.
Festive Dining
If you are planning a buffet or dinner, add the special touch of place cards to the table. They need not be expensive or professionally done. Calligraphy pens can usually be purchased at craft stores and make anyone’s handwriting look elegant. For simple buffet cards, cut out the pictures from last year’s Christmas cards and tape to a toothpick. Use these to identify the different dishes on the table.
Buffet tables are great at parties, especially when people might be dropping in at different times. To keep your buffet line moving, place the napkins and flatware in a location separate from the food and the drinks and cups in a third location.
As long as you have to wrap gifts, take a few extra minutes to make a great centerpiece for the table. Take three small boxes of different sizes and wrap in your favorite wrapping paper. Add some pretty ribbon, a few pine cones or tree ornaments and you have a beautiful and original centerpiece or table topper. Use a few more pine cones for place card or buffet card holders.
