Shop with a cop
' At Christmas time, The Inn helps to sponsor a shop with a cop program that benefits underprivileged youths ana families. A child is given money to spend on presents and chaperoned by a police officer to the store. The child is able to purchase what he would like rather than receive something he or she does not want. •
Besides the good will involved, this program assists in breaking down stereotypes that underprivileged youth have about the police. They are able to see the police officer as someone on their side rather than as the enemy.
Other donations during the year have included $10,000 in gift certificates to various charities. At least half of that amount has stayed within the community for auctions, raffles and fund raisers.
