Photo courtesy of First Washington Museum OUT-OF-THE-ATTIC: This photograph is of the lovely old Menefee home in the Town of Washington which was built in the early 1800’s. Miss Dora Menefee was the last family member residing in the house earlier this century. The Menefee family owned the first car in Rappahannock County. The home was graced with wisteria on the front and a yard full of violets in the back. It was said that Miss Dora would let neighborhood children pick violets and when she decided they had picked enough, she would tap on the window and say, “Now girls, that’s enough." The house stood where the Rappahannock News building is today.
