Although the major goal of the relay is to raise money to aid the fight against cancer, the relay is more than a mere fund-raising effort. It is a celebration of the fives of cancer victims, both those who have died and those who have survived. It is also a party for the survivors, and for the friends and families of victims who join together in the fund raising effort.
The bulk of the fund raising takes place prior to the event itself so it is no surprise that planning for the 2000 Relay for Life is already underway.
The kick-off meeting is scheduled for Jan. 25 at the Flint Hill Fire Hall and will begin at 7:30 p.m. It will be an important meeting, and to assure that next year’s relay is even more successful than last year’s, committee members should be sure to attend.
Team captains and prospective captains will find the meeting useful according to Mrs. Settle who also said that “everyone” is invited to attend.
