In stark contrast to the approach used by Robert Lindquist to disseminate his “Amissville Commercial Development Plan” to county officials this past March, the Amissville Area Community Association (AACA) used the “Public Comment” portion of last week’s Planning Commission meeting to present their approach for the “Amissville Community Planning Process.” AACA President Steve Miller introduced the subject of Amissville community planning and Paul Komar, AACA’s Chairman for Organization and Planning, presented details of the planning process that the organization has adopted.
According to Mr. Komar, the Organization and Planning Group’s effort has two goals: 1) to prepare draft village alternative plans, that are consistent with the County Comprehensive Plan, for use by the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors; and 2) to prepare a draft Jackson District “Annex” to the Comprehensive Plan.
The process of plan development, Mr. Komar related, starts with the collection and processing of data including an inventory of properties, businesses, roads and historic sites; information on historic landmarks, events and area history; an assessment of county and Amissville economic needs; and the desires and priorities of community residents based upon the results of a broadly distributed survey.
