One of the strongest needs we have in our county is for transportation; “transportation in the county is a difficult problem for people because we are so rural. Anyone who has appointments connected with the health department, or social services or their doctors, we can help them with transportation. If someone needs a friendly visitor, I have volunteers who would like to do that. We also have volunteers in quite a wide variety of other places in the community.”
Other avenues for volunteering through RSVP include research for the Historical Society, work at the Ki Theatre, the Hospice, the Rappahannock Association for the Arts, Washington Volunteer Fire Department, the Lions Club, the Rappahannock Library and the Rappahannock Senior Center.
The Senior Center has lunch and a social hour three times a week, for those who need an excuse to get out an mingle.
If you would like to give a little, but are worried about too big a commitment, worry not. Most of Mrs. McNear’s volunteers work on an oncall basis, with a few days notice ahead of any activities.
