Jim Fort, one of the Piedmont areas best known wood sculptors, will open a new show at the Middle Street Gallery in Washington on May 5. It will run until May 28.
The public is invited to an opening reception on Sunday, May 7 from 2 to 6 p.m. The gallery is located next to The Inn and is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday through Sunday.
Fort describes working in his abstract wood forms as “always a joy and a challenge dealing with the surprise of a weathered, decayed place in a crucial area is more than offset by finding a beautiful burl or a sudden change in color.” The many hours of work involved in creating a sculpture are rewarded when the final coat of oil is rubbed into the wood.
