Rappahannock Supervisors heard nearly unanimous support for the School Board’s budget proposal at a, hearing Monday night. Though the Public Hearing attracted only a mod-1 erately small gathering, not one! speaker promoted budget reductions, and most called for supervisor initiative to restore cuts made by the School Board to administrative salary increases.
Stonewall-Hawthorne District Supervisor Robert Anderson served as acting chairman in the absence of the recuperating Pete Estes. He opened the hearing by noting that the “School Board worked long and hard on the budget,” and introduced School Board Chair Rosa Crocker who, in turn, introduced those School Board members in attendance.
County Administrator John McCarthy provided procedural information, saying that the Board of Supervisors must wait, by law, seven days from the date of the public hearing to adopt the schools budget. The budget then will be discussed and voted upon at the May 1 meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
