courts the attendance, bags picked-up, hours worked and attitude of the workers. Those who fail to appear or do not meet the program’s standards have to come back before the judge and face the possibility of incarceration.
Coordination within the court system is managed by Patricia Davis and Donna Foster in the District Court, Ellen Mustoe Juvenile Probation Officer, and the Fauquier Adult Court Services Office in Warrenton, which serves Rappahannock County.
Judge Dudley Payne in the Juvenile Court has approved a new wrinkle to the program which will let a parent work alongside their minor child to help satisfy the child’s community service hours.
“This program allows offenders to give something back to their community,” says General District Judge Charles Foley. “I think it’s great.”
“I think it’s a great program, the workers and volunteers who come out and give up their Saturdays to support this program become acutely aware of the amount of trash thrown out on our county roads,” says Buck Payne. “I just wish that the community as a whole would become as aware and support the efforts to keep our roads trash free. It is about attitude, the community must be willing to take the attitude that trash on our roads is just not acceptable.”
