Erosion, Sediment course offered
Virginia’s Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is offering an Erosion and Sediment Control in Virginia course. This course was developed through the collaborative efforts of DCR’s Division of Soil and Water Conservation and the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The one-day course will cover the state minimum standards, related engineering specifications and conservation practices on construction sites. Participants who complete the course and pass the examination at the end of the training will receive a certificate of completion. There is a $50 non-refundable registration fee, which includes a manual. There are six locations and dates to choose from Richmond, May 9; Fredericksburg, May 16; Charlottesville, May 25; Lynchburg, June 1; Williamsburg, June 15 and Manassas, July 12. • Saturday, April 29, “Women’s Hike Series.” Destination: White Oak Canyon. Details: Meet at Mountainside Market in Sperryville between 8:30-9 a.m. or at parking lot off Route 600 by 9:30 a.m. Bring food and liquid for self and layered clothing. • Saturday, May 13, “Second Saturday Hike Series.” Destination: Little Devil’s Stairs (along headwaters of Covington and Piney Rivers in central Rappahannock River watershed). Details: Meet at Mountainside Market, 987-9100 on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville between 8-8:30 a.m. and caravan from there to trail head. Return mid-to-late afternoon. “Culpeper Day ” planned
The Culpeper Ruritan Club will host “Culpeper Day” on Saturday, May 6 on Davis Street in downtown Culpeper from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The festival will take place rain or shine. Persons interested in reserving a space to display crafts, information and/or exhibits should call Rusty Jenkins at 825-7768.
