While it is early in the campaign and both Ennis and Longyear will be seeking the Republican nomination that won't be decided until the primary next spring, it did not stop one of the candidates from putting his spin on the numbers.
In a press release sent to local media, Longyear offered an analysis purporting to show that with a total of 168 contributors, he had "recruited twice as many donors as Ennis" and his higher number of contributors — compared to the 80 listed in Ennis' report — "shows broad and deep support for my campaign."
Longyear strives to make an additional point by claiming that the average donation to the Ennis campaign is $343 (times 80, or $27,440) and $70 (times 168,or $11,760) for his campaign.
